Hawthorne, Los Angeles County
Brian, Dennis and Carl Wilson grew up in a small house in Hawthorne and formed the Beach Boys there in 1961. The house was removed to make way for the 105 freeway, and a brick monument at the site, dedicated in 2005, is a state historic landmark. The city itself is named for the author Nathaniel Hawthorne.
